Benefits of EMDR Intensives

EMDR intensives offer a focused, accelerated approach to healing through extended therapy sessions. I currently offer 2 to 3 hour sessions that can be done over multiple days in a row or every 1 to 2 weeks until our work feels complete. This immersive format helps processing traumatic experiences more efficiently, making it an excellent option for those who want to experience relief without the long-term commitment of traditional weekly therapy.

For individuals struggling with the lasting effects of childhood trauma or sexual abuse, low self-worth, and relationship challenges, EMDR intensives can provide a powerful shift. Potential benefits include reduced PTSD symptoms, improved emotional regulation, greater psychological flexibility, deeper integration of past experiences, and improved relationship dynamics.

Not everyone is a fit for EMDR intensives, and a thorough assessment is necessary to ensure it aligns with your needs. If you’re ready to explore this transformative approach, I’m here to guide you through the process as a trained EMDR therapist.

EMDR is only offered by trained therapists and limited to the state they practice in. At this time, I am only offering EMDR to individuals living in the state of Georgia, where I am licensed. Referals are offered upon request.

The EMDR intensive process

During a consultation call, I will provide an estimated time frame for EMDR sessions based on the memories and beliefs you wish to reprocess. For those who have experienced a single incident trauma in recent years, like a car accident, we may only need 2 to 3 hours to complete our work. The farther back and more engrained a target is, the more time may be needed. Everyone has their own pace for healing and creating a time frame that works for your schedule is possible.

In the sessions, a completed target would look like discussing what memory we are reprocessing, what belief about yourself is associated, and what belief you would like to have instead. I would provide grounding techniques to help reorient you to the present moment so that you do not feel overly triggered and are able to ground yourself in our time apart as well. During the actual processing, we go as long as you are able to and have options to take breaks in between and discuss the themes of what is coming up. I may introduce other techniques like parts work or somatic experiencing to enhance the process.

Once a target is considered clear, which is when the thought of it no longer feels triggering, we process a future scenario where you could be triggered until that feels cleared. Following processing, we integrate the experience and how to maintain the healing you accomplished. Other targets may have been identified and discussed as future EMDR sessions.

Are you a good candidate?

EMDR intensives are ideal for individuals who have struggled with persistent trauma symptoms, and have not found relief through traditional weekly therapy. Individuals who struggle with depression and anxiety, have fear around an upcoming event, or want to experience deeper self reflection are also great candidates.

Those who may not be a good fit for EMDR tend to be those who struggle with identifying their emotions or locating physical sensations in their body. As well as those who can’t as readily access their imagination. Dissociation also can impact the process and there are EMDR trained therapists who specialize in working with dissociation that I can provide referrals for.

In general, highly motivated individuals who are ready to commit to deep healing may experience the greatest benefits from this accelerated format. EMDR intensives provide a structured yet flexible space to process trauma more efficiently, helping clients break free from past patterns and move toward lasting emotional well-being.

Why choose an EMDR Intensive?

Heal your relationships

If you realize that the same issues keep coming up in different relationships, there is work to be done on your part. EMDR will help you to break this pattern.

Feel comfortable in your body

If you experience chronic conditions in your body with no known cause, it is possible that the root issue is psychosomatic. Discovering the core memory where the physical ailment originates will aid in mitigating related symptoms. Clients have noticed decreased feelings of anxiety, tension, fatigue, and pain to name a few.

Overcome limiting self belief

If you want to experience more confidence and trust in yourself to achieve your dreams, but struggle from negative self talk and poor self image, EMDR will help you transform these beliefs and create a new narrative.

Experience healing in a shorter time frame

If you want to heal as soon as possible but don’t have the time for weekly therapy, EMDR intensives are for you. Depending on how deep rooted the trauma is, noticeable changes can start to be experienced in a few hours.

What should you expect after an EMDR intensive session?

Following an EMDR intensive, it’s normal to experience a range of emotions, from relief and clarity to temporary exhaustion as your brain continues to process and integrate what surfaced during the sessions. This is a natural part of healing, and prioritizing self-care—such as rest, gentle movement, and emotional grounding—can help support your recovery.

Processing doesn’t stop when the session ends, and shifts in how you think and feel about past trauma may continue to unfold over time. If any concerns arise, I encourage open communication so we can ensure you feel supported throughout your healing journey. With time, EMDR can create lasting changes, allowing you to move forward with greater ease and resilience.

As a licensed professional, I do my best to ensure a safe and supportive environment for your healing journey. Whether we meet in person or virtually.
